Lithothamnium calcareum is a unique marine red algae found off the coast of the Glénan Islands in western Brittany. Its special ability is to collect and bind calcium and other minerals from nutrient-rich seawater, gradually forming a light red to white coral-like structure.
Calcium plays an essential role in the formation of the inorganic substance of bones and teeth.
